Rise of the Tomb Raider is a action-adventure game developed by Tomb Raider Ltd. The game is a sequel to the original Tomb Raider. In this game, the player controls the character of Lara Croft, a year after the events of Tomb Raider. The goal of the game is to find the city of Kitezh in Siberia, Russia. The story begins with the discovery of an ancient city, which is located near the Kitezh River. The legend behind the city is that it was built by an ancient tribe, which was later to be destroyed by the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. The city was later to be found by the Germans, who built a railway station there. It is now known as Kitezh.

The story continues with the arrival of the player character, Lara Croft, in Kitezh. The city is surrounded by a high wall, which is built of stone and brick. The character is given a note, which explains that she has to go to Kitezh to find a place called Trinity. Upon arrival in Kitezh, the player character finds herself in a strange and frightening environment.
